Ten Easy Ways To Create Space In Your Home

There are two kinds of people in the world - those that keep everything and those that throw out everything that isn't glued down.

Have you ever noticed how often they marry each other? They say opposites attract... But I digress - that's another article :-)

By writing this article, it may seem as if I'm trying to ruin my business; however, the fact is that eventually we all buy and/or collect more things than can fit into the size of house we can afford. If you can delay the inevitable garage sale or storage space rental for a couple of years - well, why not save your money?

To tell you the truth, I think we (most of us, anyway) will continue to acquire things and eventually run out of space. I think it's safe to say that the storage business will be around for a long time.

So, without further here are 10 ways you can make better use of the space in your home.

One - Use under-the-bed storage boxes or suitcases to store out-of-season clothing, blankets and linens.

Two - Wall space is often overlooked. Can you add a shelf or closet somewhere?

Three - Mount small appliances under the kitchen cabinets to save counter space. Use stackable canisters, hanging racks and other storage accessories to give provide more cabinet space.

Four - For kitchen pots and pans, mount them on a ceiling or wall rack.

Five - Purchase or build inexpensive cabinets to make extra space in your basement or garage.

Six - Use a closet organizer. You could have a custom one built, or you could buy a ready-made product from a wide number of hardware stores, or you could design and build your own.

Seven - Do you have space in your closets for a set of stackable, rolling wire baskets?

Eight - Mount racks and hooks inside closet doors to organize shoes, ties, and belts.

Nine - Buy a wardrobe for additional closet space. If you can't afford to buy one, visit a self storage center and pick up a wardrobe moving box. They are strong and hold quite a bit.

Ten - Finally, if you still are having trouble with your space, throw out things you don't use anymore. I have 2 year rule: if I haven't needed it in two years I am living without it. I can throw it out. How about you?

By following these simple suggestions, I'm sure you'll be able to open up our home a little more and - if you're lucky - make room for more stuff!
