Hire Professional Movers - Avoid Costly Damage
Hiring someone to move you costs more than doing it yourself, but there are numerous benefits that justify the cost. Busy professionals and families with young children will find hiring a moving company to be especially advantageous.
Your first step is to get your house ready for moving. Unless you're sure that you'll be taking everything with you, this is the time to go through and get rid of toys the kids have outgrown, clothes you don't wear anymore, etc. If you're paying to have it moved, make sure it's something you really want to keep.
Once that's done, you can get started on your research. Ask everyone you know for recommendations, and contact your local Better Business Bureau or similar agency to find out what kind of rating each company has, and what kinds of complaints, if any, have been filed against them.
Once you have your list, it's time to start contacting the companies and gathering the information you'll need to make your final decision. Discuss price estimates, insurance coverage, optional services, and verify that they're available during the time you need.
Be sure to get everything in writing, including what size van you'll be getting, and how long you have it booked for. It's especially important to make sure that the movers and the van will be available on the dates that you need them.
Keep in mind that there are always going to be some things you won't want to put in the moving van. Items with high monetary or sentimental value, legal documents, and family photographs are examples of things that should make the journey with you.
Once you have all of your preparations in place, you can sit back and let someone else do all the heavy lifting. You'll never want to move the do-it-yourself way again!
